COMPOSITION

Ted’s original compositions, published by Cimarron Music Press and Warwick Music Publishing, have been performed at concert venues from the Leipzig Gewandhaus to the Stone in New York City by acclaimed soloists and ensembles including: Andy Akiho, George Allen of the United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own), Charley Brighton of the BBC Winds, Jason Ham of the United States Military Academy Band, Ruthanne Schempf, Dr. Patrick Smith and Dmitri Shteinberg of Virginia Commonwealth University, Peter Steiner and Constanze Hochwartner (forthcoming), Harry Watters, the George Mason University Wind Symphony, the International Composers Festival Orchestra, the Luftwaffenmusikkorps Erfurt, the United States Army Orchestra, and students at music schools and conservatories including Boston Conservatory, Peabody Conservatory, and SUNY Fredonia.

As a composer, Ted has shown facility writing for different ensembles in a variety of styles. He has been a finalist in several different categories of the American Prize Composition Contest, and he earned honorable mention for his work Fantasia for Horn and Piano, which is included on the Navona Records compilation album Brass Tacks 2. Earlier in his career he was named a finalist in the VH1 Song of the Year Competition (Electronica/Dance). In 2017, Ted served as a judge for the National Trombone Composition Competition of the American Trombone Workshop. His 2021 work Solitary was featured in the digital gallery of Boston University’s project Race, Prison, Justice: Illuminating Stories through the Arts, and his work The Source Revisited was selected for performance at the 2022 International Composers Festival in the UK. Safe Till Tomorrow (2021)
The composer’s orchestration of his choral work of the same name.

Stone Ridge Overture (2017)
Premiered by the Marist College Orchestra under the composer’s direction in April 2017. The piece was written for the composer’s wedding, and was also performed by an ad hoc professional orchestra during his wedding ceremony at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kingston, NY on July 1, 2017. 

Elegy (2006)
Dedicated to the composer’s late grandparents, Elegy was premiered by the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra at the Harris Pavilion in Manassas, VA in 2006.  

Theme and Variations for Trombone and Orchestra (2004)
Premiered by Harry Watters (trombone) and the United States Army Orchestra in 2004.

The Source Revisited (2019)
Recorded by members of the Oakwood Friends School Orchestra in 2019.
Selected as a finalist in the pops/light music division of the 2021 American Prize Composition Contest and performed at the 2022 International Composers Festival. 

Dorian Sketches (2014)
Premiered by the Marist College Orchestra under the composer’s direction at the historic Bardavon Opera House in Poughkeepsie, NY in April 2014

A New Beginning (2007)
Premiered at Marist College by the Marist College Orchestra under the direction of Douglas Richard in 2007.

Wind Band

Regeneration (2021)
A bandstration of the composer’s 2016 solo piano piece of the same name.
Premiered at a joint concert of the Lebanon County Community Band and the South Hanover Band on August 17, 2022, Dr. Keith Richardson conducting. 

Symphony for Band: Beyond the Elusive Dream (2018)
Read and recorded by the George Mason Wind Symphony in November 2019.
Selected as a semifinalist in the wind band division of the 2021 American Prize Composition Contest and premiered by the Luftwaffenmusikkorps Erfurt at the Leipzig Gewandhaus in November 2023.

Vernal Equinox (2011)
Premiered by the Marist College Wind Symphony in 2011 and performed again by the Marist College Symphonic Community Band at the Association of Concert Bands National Convention 2012 in Poughkeepsie, NY.
